Car Camp with Girl & Her Backpack

 

For girls ages 11-15, Car camping is a 3-day, 2-night trip that gives girls the opportunity to learn how to camp, explore outdoors, build friendships, and play.

Where and when

Weekend 1: June 21 -23 at Redman Campground

Weekend 2: October 17 -19 at Goblin Valley

Ages: 11-15

Drop-off & Pickup: Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City, UT

What is provided?

All major gear is provided (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, pillow, hydration system, headlamp, etc.) to decrease comparison and create gear equality. Meals and snacks are also provided.

Lodging: We will be driving to our campground, participants will sleep in 3 and 4-person tents with girls in the same age group. Hiking Leaders and instructors will sleep in tents separate from attendees but close by.

Cost: We operate on a sliding scale cost based on family income, a non-refundable 50% deposit will be due within 24 hours of registering to confirm your spot. Please send the deposit to ashley@girlandherbackpack.com via paypal.

Under $35,000: Free

$35,000 to $50,000 : $50-$100

$50,000 to $75,000 : $100-$125

$75,000 to $100,000 : $125-$150

$100,000+ : $150-250 (anything beyond $150 will be donated towards a scholarship for other camp participants)

Safety: All staff are First Aid/CPR Certified and Background Checked. At least two of the staff will be certified wilderness first responders through EMT Utah. Should any serious accident or illness occur at camp, the child’s parent/guardian will be notified immediately via a radio spot.

All campers will sign a waiver stating they have not experienced symptoms of COVID or been exposed to someone with COVID within a certain time-frame. Temperatures will be taken with a no-touch thermometer upon drop-off.

Clothing

  • 2 Pairs of pajamas

  • I Pair of pants

  • 1 Pair of shorts

  • 3 Shirts

  • 3 Days of Underwear

  • Hiking/workout shoes

  • Sandals (lightweight flip flops will even do the trick!)

  • 1 Rain jacket

  • 2 Warm jackets (or 1 down jacket (recommended))

  • 3 pairs of socks (wool socks preferred - we recommend DarnTough)

  • Hat

  • Feminine products (if needed)

  • Personal medication in a bag with name and instructions written on it

There are 25 spots available for registration.

What is the Itinerary for the trip?

The itinerary will be shared with parents a few weeks before camp.

Is transportation provided?

Transportation is provided from Sugar House Park in SLC to and from the campground. Transportation from other locations can be arranged if needed. Please contact ashley@girlandherbackpack.com to arrange transportation from a nearby location.

Do you provide scholarships?

We provide scholarships to at least 50% of our camp registrants on a financial need-basis. Please contact ashley@girlandherbackpack.com if you are interested in applying for a scholarship.
